Two days ago I dropped off my friend Katie at the airport. She'll be living in India for 3-12 months. She's just one of a bunch of people I know leaving the country after graduating college. I think that makes us all pretty cool. And I'm not just saying that because I'm one of those people leaving the country ;p
I am going to be working as an ESL instructor in Okinawa, Japan beginning the first of September. I leave August 24th. While I will be teaching English, I want you to keep in mind that this is my blog...so screw those English-y rules, yeah? Anyway, I decided to begin blogging (again) because I have been going through boxes and boxes of my old stuff and it made me feel (I use the term loosely) like the student part of my life is really over now. I'm jumping into adulthood. That means instead of cool stick figure drawings and stupid diary entries, I have to pay bills and think seriously about the "future" and the "economy" and shit like that. I just want to read Harry Potter and forget the rest...
Back to that whole "going to Okinawa" thing. I'll be gone for a year. I think I'll be able to live without six months of winter. Just maybe. I'm a little worried about making friends because it isn't the same as moving to a different place in the states since people here speak English. And I'm teaching high schoolers, so it's not like I'm gonna want to be bff's with them or anything. Hmm. If I could've been in Tokyo it would've been SO easy and I wouldn't be worried about this at all...oh well. I'm sure I'll be fine. What I'm MORE worried about is how I'll survive without Laura! Gah! Most likely I will suffer. Visit me, Laura!! You have to you have to!
Okay, well. I'm going to stop. I think I've gone on enough for now. I'm just glad that I'll be working at a job that I actually wanted in a place I like. And they're paying me! And they're paying me, "In this economy!" Go figure.
peace out

Yo, homie! So, I am your first follower. It sounds applicable to previous conversations about my followery-ness. Only, I don't remember what "applicable" means so I can't be sure. I should probably define that word for myself or something.
ReplyDeleteANYWAY, you don't have to worry about me visiting because I've been planning to visit since before you even applied for the job. Plus I've been saving my vacation. If I don't use it for Japan, I'd have to use it for something lame-o like a long weekend in Albert Lea. I would probably cry.
Speaking of crying, you NEED to get internet/spend all your non-teaching moments at Starbucks. Or just get a calling card. Regardless, the whole not talking thing isn't going to work out well for me.
PS - Forget the real world. Harry Potter is way cooler.
Your follower and non-cool member of the non-cool real world,
